Teas vs Liquid Extracts

Why choose a liquid extract over a tea?

We use herbs in liquid form because they are more easily digested and absorbed. In this way they work the way they are supposed to in the herb books. Remember, the true taste of an herb is your guarantee of it being genuine. If you prefer, however, herbal fluid extracts can be added to juice for flavoring. With herbal extracts we totally eliminate the necessity of swallowing all those pills and capsules and wondering if the capsule you swallow will be able to get through the barrier film on the walls of your stomach and intestines and get to the area you want it to work.

Herbal extracts are not concentrates, they are dilutions. This is just like the dilution you make when you put a tea bag into a cup of hot water. When you make a dilution, like a tea, you have a water extract of an herb and this is very easy to digest, much easier than eating the contents of the tea bag. The extracts described here are made with water and grain neutral spirits (a natural alcohol). When the extract is kept in the liquid solution for 2 to 4 weeks, we get far more out of an herb than if a capsule of powdered herb is in the body soaking for 8 to 24 hours. Alcohol is used because it readily dissolves all of the oily, waxy, enzyme and hormonal portions of an herb. Water alone cannot do this. In this way, we get everything the herb has to offer to build better health naturally.

Dr. William Donald Kelly, a noted U.S. author of many works on regaining health, shares with us the process of our pancreas manufacturing a small amount of alcohol at all times so we don't freeze. This is a natural and ethical use of alcohol by our bodies. When an herbal extract is made with a pure grain neutral spirit (a spirit produced from grains, not a synthetic gas, and devoid of any other material dissolved in it other than water), is taken in a quantity of drops rather than a glassful, the alcohol functions as a carrier for the herb. Indeed, in many cases, an actual complex is formed where the alcohol combines with the herb to form this herb+carrier team. This same alcohol carrier principle is how a mouthwash works, or, an extract of iodine (tincture) when placed on a cut. Many brands of underarm deodorants also follow this principle. When mouthwash is used internally for a mouth bath, a certain amount of the mouth-wash is absorbed through the tongue and surrounding structures in the process of cleaning the breath. A tincture of iodine is used externally to kill germs. An underarm deodorant for the same purpose and or a perfume effect. If an individual can not tolerate these kinds of products, then they should be advised to use herbal tablets, teas, capsules, powders, or the like, in place of the type of herbal extract we describe here.

Herbal extracts, as described here, are taken on or under the tongue, mixed with fruit juice or used externally, as indicated. When used internally, they are carried through the tongue or stomach walls almost directly into the blood stream and thus, bypass the nearly 27 feet of tortured digestive tract. When applied externally to the skin, herbal extracts are rapidly absorbed and enter the blood stream within seconds. They go where they are supposed to go and do what they are supposed to. They are absorbed especially well from the soles of the feet, the palms of the hands, the insides of the thighs, the temples of the forehead, the spine and back of the neck or any other places where you can feel the pulse beat of the heart. This gives the practitioner and the user a great deal more flexibility and is very helpful for babies and grownups who cannot or will not swallow anything. It should also be emphasized here that an herbal extract can be applied to the entire spine, from the tip of the coccyx (tail bone) upward and on to the neck, to work with great rapidity and efficiency.
